Making your home more eco-friendly doesn't have to be complicated. There are many simple ways to help the planet that won't break the bank or stress your lifestyle. You might have heard of these three simple steps as a kid in grade school or scouts, but it never hurts to revisit them.

Reduce

One of my favorite ways is by reducing the amount of packaging that we acquire. I do this by using refillable containers and buying bulk items with less packaging, like THIS soap that comes in a bag. Also, choose quality over quantity which may be a little more expensive up front, but it reduces the need to replace things more frequently, saving in the long run.

Reuse

My second favorite way is to choose reusable products, like shopping and produce bags. Repurpose those Amazon boxes and packaging items for your own shipping needs, and before you get rid of that old armchair, consider reupholstering it if it's still in good shape.

Recycle/Compost

Finally, recycle or compost. You can create a compost station in your backyard and use the compost for your garden. If you have a pull-out trash can in your kitchen, try swapping it out for THIS one with a separate bin for compost materials or you can try THIS countertop compost bin. Also, check with your local municipality for what items can be recycled, and keep in mind the sizes of those items might change their recycle status.
